Raleigh, N.C. – A blanket of clouds will stretch across central North Carolina today as below-average temperatures and afternoon rain chances take hold.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, highs will range from the mid-70s to around 80 degrees across the region, several degrees cooler than normal for late May. Showers are expected to become more likely later this afternoon and into the evening hours, especially in southern and central counties including Fayetteville, Sanford, and Raleigh.
Residents near the Virginia border—from Roxboro to Roanoke Rapids—can expect overnight lows in the mid-50s, while those farther south will see temperatures closer to the low 60s. While no major rainfall totals are expected, slick roads could develop in areas that receive heavier showers during the evening commute.
Drivers should use headlights during low-visibility periods and allow extra travel time if showers develop. Outdoor plans may need to be adjusted, especially in areas with little tree cover or where drainage is poor.
Rain chances will taper off late tonight, but cloud cover is expected to linger into Monday morning. More updates will follow if conditions shift.
