Wilmington, Ohio – Umbrellas may become the must-have accessory for Memorial Day gatherings in southern Ohio as rain chances surge Monday night, followed by possible thunderstorms Tuesday. After a dry, sunny start, Wilmington is bracing for a soggy shift that could linger well into midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, scattered showers are likely after 2 a.m. Monday night, with rain becoming widespread by Tuesday morning. Thunderstorms are expected Tuesday afternoon, especially along routes like U.S. Highway 68, with rainfall totals possibly exceeding one inch in spots. East winds from 10 to 14 mph will accompany the system, increasing driving difficulty during peak travel hours.
Wilmington will see a high near 70°F on Memorial Day itself under mostly sunny skies. But conditions will deteriorate quickly Monday night. Tuesday’s high near 65°F will be overshadowed by steady rain, followed by another wave of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday.
Wednesday remains unsettled, with a 60% chance of rain and a high around 73°F. By Thursday, the region begins to dry out under mostly cloudy skies and a warm-up to 72°F. Friday and Saturday both bring isolated shower chances, but daytime highs in the mid-70s mark a return to more summerlike weather.
Residents are urged to monitor road conditions, avoid flood-prone areas, and prepare for a wet start to the short workweek. Storm chances will taper off late Wednesday, but the NWS warns additional advisories could be issued.
