Wichita, Kansas – Drivers across south-central Kansas should expect more rain and flooded roads Sunday as thunderstorms continue to soak the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:15 a.m. Saturday, with additional rain of 1 to 2 inches possible through Sunday evening. Cities including Wichita, Newton, Andover, and El Dorado are especially vulnerable, with flash flooding possible on highways like U.S. 54 and U.S. 400.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms will persist through Sunday, with a 90% chance of rain and a high near 68°F. Gusty winds may reach up to 21 mph. Areas already saturated from overnight storms may see new flooding develop rapidly. Travel is discouraged in low-lying areas, and officials urge drivers: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Memorial Day brings no relief. Storms are likely once again Monday afternoon into the evening, with highs near 67°F and continued flash flood risks. Keep phones charged, avoid outdoor grilling plans until late evening, and check local alerts for any park or parade cancellations.
Looking ahead, showers taper slightly by Tuesday, with a chance of scattered thunderstorms and highs near 70°F. Wednesday and Thursday bring improving conditions—partly sunny skies and highs in the low 70s—but isolated storms may still pop up.
