Tallahassee, FL – Scorching heat and isolated thunderstorms will challenge Memorial Day weekend plans across North Florida and South Georgia Saturday, with inland highs surging into the mid-90s and storms possible by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, temperatures are expected to peak between 94°F and 97°F from Albany and Valdosta to Marianna and Tallahassee, with heat indices potentially climbing higher. A few thunderstorms may develop after 4 p.m., mainly in southeast Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia—particularly around Enterprise, De Funiak Springs, and Bainbridge, where rain chances range from 15% to 25%.

The combination of extreme heat and scattered lightning could impact outdoor plans and road travel across U.S. 231, I-10, and I-75. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and head indoors at the first sign of thunder. SPF 30 or higher sunscreen is recommended, along with loose-fitting clothing and access to shade or air conditioning.

Friday’s heatwave marks one of the hottest days so far this year for the region. Additional advisories could be issued if storm coverage increases into the evening.
