Denver, Colorado – Large hail and a brief tornado risk could hit central Colorado this afternoon as strong to severe thunderstorms develop along the I-25 corridor. Storms are expected to intensify between 2 and 8 p.m., especially near the Palmer Divide and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, scattered storms will begin forming early afternoon, with a marginal risk for severe weather across much of the Front Range. The primary threat is large hail, but brief tornadoes and strong wind gusts are also possible, particularly in areas stretching from Castle Rock to Fort Collins.

Drivers on I-25 and Highway 83 should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, including sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Urban areas like Denver, Centennial, and Colorado Springs may see isolated power outages if winds strengthen or hail causes damage.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, keep phones charged, and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts. This storm system will bring a sharp change from yesterday’s warm, dry conditions, adding instability that fuels today’s storm chances.

Storm activity is expected to taper off after sunset, but the National Weather Service warns that additional alerts could be issued if conditions escalate.
