Boston, Massachusetts – Unseasonably cool air will keep temperatures in the 50s across Massachusetts today, with spotty afternoon showers possible inland.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, Friday’s highs will run 10 to 15 degrees below average for late May. Interior areas like Worcester, Fitchburg, and Greenfield are expected to reach only 55°F, while coastal cities including Boston, Plymouth, and New Bedford will hover near 57°F. The best chance for brief showers is across the interior by late afternoon, though most of the state will remain dry.

Travelers heading out early for Memorial Day weekend should pack layers. Pittsfield may not top 50°F today, while Springfield and Hartford will struggle to reach the mid-50s. Winds remain light, but cloud cover will limit sunshine through much of the day.

Though today will feel more like early April, a warming trend is on the way. Temperatures begin rising Sunday and continue climbing into the holiday on Monday, with 70s likely to return.

More updates are expected as Memorial Day approaches. For now, no weather alerts are active, but residents should monitor local conditions, especially in western and central Massachusetts.
