Cleveland, Ohio – Lingering showers are expected to taper off Friday in far northeast Ohio and parts of northwest Pennsylvania, giving way to drier skies and brief periods of sunshine. However, the reprieve from rain comes with a price—temperatures are set to dip into the low 40s, with a few upper 30s possible in elevated areas.
According to the National Weather Service Cleveland, clouds will gradually clear throughout the day, especially in north-central and northwest Ohio. Daytime highs will stay cool, ranging from 53 to 58°F, well below seasonal averages. More consistent sunshine is expected west of I-71, while skies remain partly cloudy farther east.
Drivers and residents in counties such as Ashtabula, Trumbull, and Geauga should prepare for a cold evening. Unseasonably low temperatures could lead to frost development in higher elevations and open rural areas—particularly south of U.S. Route 30.
Officials recommend dressing in layers and bringing in sensitive plants. This could be one of the coldest late-May nights in recent years.
Skies will continue to clear overnight, with updates likely Saturday morning as temperatures gradually rebound into the weekend.
