Boston, Massachusetts – Coastal flood threats and damaging wind gusts are already impacting the Bay State Thursday night — and Friday will bring more disruption across Massachusetts as Memorial Day weekend approaches.

According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for Boston and nearby shorelines until 11 p.m. Thursday, while a Wind Advisory stays active until 10 a.m. Friday. Winds are expected to gust up to 45 mph, especially near the coast and along exposed routes like Interstate 93 and Route 1A.

Periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will continue through Friday morning. Patchy fog and low visibility may affect early commutes, especially in Suffolk, Plymouth, and Essex counties. New rainfall amounts could exceed one inch, with ponding possible on poorly drained roads.

By Friday afternoon, conditions begin to improve. Rain tapers by midday with gradual clearing Friday night. Winds will ease, shifting northwest at 10 to 15 mph. Temperatures will hover near 54°F through Friday.

Memorial Day Weekend Outlook:

  • Saturday: Dry during the day with highs near 60°F. A chance of evening showers returns after 9 p.m.
  • Sunday: The pick of the weekend — partly sunny and warmer, with highs near 63°F.
  • Memorial Day (Monday): Mostly sunny, breezy, and highs in the upper 60s, ideal for outdoor plans.

Looking ahead, Tuesday brings sunshine with a slight breeze, while Wednesday may see a return to scattered showers. Stay weather-aware through the holiday stretch — more advisories are possible if winds or tides intensify.
