Paducah, Ky. – Boaters across Kentucky Lake and surrounding waters should brace for dangerous conditions through Wednesday evening as strong winds whip across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT (8 p.m. EDT) for portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. Sustained winds from the west are blowing at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts peaking near 30 mph.

Counties impacted include Jefferson, Franklin, Massac, Gibson, Daviess, and Perry, with key lake areas near Paducah, Cape Girardeau, and Evansville seeing the most hazardous wave activity. Small craft, including fishing boats and pontoons, are at the greatest risk of capsizing or control issues in choppy water.

Officials advise boaters to avoid open waters if possible, wear life jackets, and check for local updates before launching. The high winds could also create minor issues for high-profile vehicles on bridges and causeways.

Conditions are expected to ease by sunset, but lake visitors should remain cautious, as additional advisories may be issued if gusts persist.
