Fort Worth, Texas – Drivers and residents across North and Central Texas should brace for intense thunderstorms Thursday, with large hail and strong winds likely to impact travel and outdoor plans from 2 p.m. to midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, initially isolated storms are expected to rapidly intensify into a cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms by Thursday afternoon. The greatest threats include large to very large hail and damaging wind gusts, particularly in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Waco, and surrounding cities. The risk of a tornado is low, but not zero.

Areas including Sherman, Graham, Canton, Cisco, Killeen, and Palestine are in the path of the evening system, which will push southward through the night. The storms could develop quickly, reducing visibility and producing sudden downpours and hail capable of damaging vehicles and rooftops.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts—such as phone apps or NOAA weather radios—and to avoid stopping under highway overpasses, which are unsafe during high winds. Prepare now by securing outdoor objects and planning alternate indoor activities.

Storm warnings remain in effect through midnight, and additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
