Pueblo, Colo. – Strong winds and unusually warm temperatures are sweeping across southern Colorado Wednesday, with highs reaching the 80s across the Plains and 70s in the San Luis Valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, dry and breezy conditions will persist through the end of the week, with peak warmth expected Friday. A weak cold front arriving tonight will stir up gusty winds between 25 to 35 mph, increasing fire danger and making travel on east-west routes, like U.S. 50 and Highway 160, more difficult for high-profile vehicles.

Communities including Pueblo, La Junta, Walsenburg, and Alamosa will see elevated temperatures ranging 10–15 degrees above seasonal averages. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, limit outdoor burning, and remain weather-aware, especially in rural or fire-prone areas.

Afternoon showers and storms may develop Thursday over higher elevations like the Wet Mountains and Sangre de Cristos, though widespread rain is not expected.

Warm, windy weather is forecast to continue through Friday, when another update is expected from NWS Pueblo.
