Austin, Texas – Dangerously hot and dry weather is gripping South-Central Texas today, with high temperatures nearing 99°F in Uvalde and San Antonio and 95°F across much of the Hill Country.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, the region will remain under partly cloudy skies with minimal humidity relief. Highs Thursday afternoon will soar into the mid to upper 90s, including 97°F in Hondo, 96°F in New Braunfels, and 95°F in Austin and Fredericksburg. Dry conditions will persist through Saturday, raising concerns for fire danger, especially in rural and grassy areas.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and avoid burning or using equipment that could spark fires. The Texas A&M Forest Service has warned of elevated wildfire risks across central and western counties.
Light winds and stagnant air will keep conditions largely unchanged through Saturday, with minimal overnight cooling. Lows will hover in the low to mid-70s across the region.
By Sunday, isolated thunderstorms could develop in the afternoon, with broader rain chances and scattered storms possible by Monday. The NWS advises monitoring updates as the pattern shifts heading into early next week.
