Binghamton, N.Y. – A soggy, chilly pattern has settled over central New York, with steady rain and below-normal temperatures expected to linger through at least Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, showers will move in Wednesday morning and continue intermittently through Friday, with rainfall totals ranging from 0.5 to 1.75 inches across the region. High temperatures will struggle to break out of the 50s, dipping into the upper 40s by Thursday and Friday in places like Ithaca, Walton, and Scranton.

Communities including Binghamton, Syracuse, and Elmira are under a 95% or higher chance of rain through most of the next 48 hours. The damp stretch is expected to impact commutes, outdoor activities, and possibly local events. Residents are urged to use headlights in low visibility, avoid flooded roadways, and keep umbrellas and layers handy.

Roads such as I-81, Route 17, and the Southern Tier Expressway may see standing water and slower travel times. This chilly spell comes on the heels of a cooler-than-average spring, frustrating many still waiting for consistently warm weather.

Rain is expected to taper late Friday, though additional showers could return by the weekend depending on evolving storm tracks.
