Louisville, Kentucky – Damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes could impact much of Kentucky Tuesday afternoon through late evening, with the most dangerous storms expected to arrive between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, strong to severe thunderstorms will sweep across the state Tuesday, starting as early as noon in western Kentucky and progressing eastward into the night. Areas under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) include Louisville, Bowling Green, and much of south-central Kentucky — where confidence is highest for damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.
In cities like Lexington, Richmond, and Pikeville, storms are expected to arrive later — between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. — with the potential for hail and localized flash flooding. Some school activities and evening commutes could be disrupted, especially if tornado warnings are issued.
Drivers are urged to avoid travel during the peak storm window. Tie down or bring inside any loose outdoor items — even trampolines and patio furniture could become hazards. Keep phones charged and enable emergency alerts.
Severe weather warnings remain possible into Tuesday night. Stay tuned for updates as new watches or advisories may be issued through the evening.
