Indianapolis, Indiana – Scattered thunderstorms will move into central Indiana tonight, with a greater risk of strong to severe storms Tuesday afternoon and evening that could bring damaging wind gusts and large hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, rain and cooler temperatures will begin overnight, with storms becoming more widespread by Tuesday morning. A Level 2 out of 5 risk zone covers much of central and southern Indiana, where severe weather is most likely between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Cities including Bloomington, Terre Haute, and Columbus lie in the highest risk area, where scattered severe storms are possible. The main threats include damaging wind gusts and isolated hail. Flash flooding potential remains low but cannot be ruled out. Lighter, non-severe storms could arrive earlier in the day, especially in Lafayette and Kokomo.
Drivers should avoid travel during peak storm hours and secure loose outdoor items. Those in mobile homes or older structures should review shelter plans in case warnings are issued. Temperatures will drop midweek, with highs in the low 60s and rain chances persisting through Wednesday.
Stay weather-aware and check for local updates throughout the day Tuesday — additional alerts may be issued as storms develop.
