Kansas City, Missouri – Strong to severe storms will push into western Missouri as early as 6 p.m. Sunday, bringing large hail, damaging winds, and up to 2 inches of rainfall to parts of the state overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, storms are expected to arrive in the Kansas City metro between 6 and 9 p.m., with activity spreading east toward Columbia and Jefferson City by midnight and lasting through 3 a.m. Monday. The greatest threats include wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and localized flash flooding.

Heavy rain is forecast across much of northern and central Missouri, with St. Joseph, Kansas City, and Butler likely to receive between 1.5 to 2 inches by Monday morning. Areas along I-70—including Sedalia, Warrensburg, and Columbia—may also see over an inch of rainfall, increasing the risk of ponding on roadways and poor drainage flooding.

Drivers should avoid non-essential travel tonight and secure outdoor items. Power outages are possible where winds are strongest. Residents are urged to charge devices, monitor NOAA weather radios, and check local alerts.

Storms are expected to taper off by sunrise, but additional watches or warnings may be issued later Sunday as conditions evolve.
