Orlando, Florida – Sunshine and sizzling temperatures will grip Central Florida on Monday as daytime highs in Orlando surge to 97°F, raising concerns over fire danger and outdoor safety.

According to the National Weather Service, hot and dry conditions will dominate the region with light southwest winds in the morning intensifying to 15 mph and gusting to 20 mph by midweek. Humidity will remain low, keeping the risk of brush fires elevated through at least Wednesday.

The heat wave begins in full Monday, with little cloud cover and no rain relief. Monday night stays warm with lows around 74°F. Tuesday offers no break, matching Monday’s 97°F high as dry air and sun persist. Winds continue to build through Wednesday, peaking midweek with gusts near 20 mph. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burns, stay hydrated, and limit time in direct sun during afternoon hours.

Drivers along I-4 and other major roadways may face visibility issues from smoke if brush fires spark, particularly in outlying counties such as Osceola and Lake. Utility companies have not issued warnings yet, but energy demand is expected to spike as air conditioning usage climbs.

Looking ahead, a slim 20% chance of showers arrives Thursday afternoon, though high temperatures will still hover near 94°F. Friday and Saturday look clearer, with sunshine and temps just below 90°F — slightly more typical for late May.
