Tampa, Florida – Dangerous heat will grip the Tampa area Monday as temperatures soar to 94°F, with heat index values approaching a sweltering 100°F by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, calm morning winds will shift west-southwest at 5 to 9 mph, bringing oppressive humidity and raising the risk of heat exhaustion. Residents, especially along the I-275 corridor and near downtown, should limit outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and check on older neighbors.

The heat continues into Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs staying in the low 90s and little relief overnight as lows barely dip below the mid-70s. The NWS warns that sustained heat like this, particularly in May, increases health risks for children, seniors, and pets. Light winds will keep conditions stagnant, and local energy demand may spike during peak hours.

By Thursday, a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms could offer minor cooling, but highs remain around 90°F. Friday’s forecast calls for more sunshine and continued warmth, with highs again near 90°F and no rain in sight.
