Jackson, Ky. – Strong thunderstorms could impact much of Kentucky beginning Monday morning, with isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and flash flooding possible through Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms covers areas from Pulaski County to Whitley County on Monday, with a Slight Risk (Level 2) expected west of the US 23 corridor on Tuesday. The storms could bring large hail, 40–60 mph wind gusts, and heavy rain starting early Monday and continuing in waves through Tuesday evening.

Localized flooding may become a concern, particularly in eastern Kentucky. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall from Monday night through Wednesday morning, warning that repeated rounds of thunderstorms may drop torrential rain on already saturated ground.

Cities including Lexington, Pikeville, Somerset, and London should prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Motorists are urged to avoid low-lying roads during storms, while residents should secure loose outdoor items and monitor for alerts.

The storm system may bring multiple rounds of severe weather, with threats peaking Tuesday afternoon and evening. Additional warnings or advisories could be issued through midweek.
