Little Rock, Arkansas – Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats this evening across parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, as a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, scattered supercell storms will continue through the evening, bringing hail up to two inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching 70 mph. The watch zone includes southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and west-central Mississippi—impacting cities like Crossett, Bastrop, Greenville, and Yazoo City.

In these areas, residents should secure outdoor items, avoid travel if possible, and remain indoors as storms approach. Frequent lightning and brief power outages are possible, especially along highways I-55 and I-20, where storm intensity may peak. Over 360,000 people are potentially affected, including 226 schools and 30 hospitals.

This system is the latest in a string of May severe weather events across the Lower Mississippi Valley. Unlike last week’s wind-driven storms, today’s hail threat could cause vehicle and roof damage.

More updates will be issued as conditions evolve. Watches or warnings may extend into the overnight hours depending on storm development.
