Omaha, Neb. – Residents across eastern Nebraska should prepare for damaging storms beginning Sunday evening, with the highest risk targeting areas from Lincoln to Omaha and south toward Beatrice.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a Level 2 (Slight Risk) severe weather threat is in effect Sunday, May 18, with a 50–90% chance of thunderstorms and a 15–30% chance that storms become severe. The threat includes hail up to 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts reaching 70 mph, and the potential for isolated tornadoes.

Cities in the Level 2 zone—Lincoln, Columbus, Nebraska City, and Wahoo—could see storms intensify after 6 p.m. Sunday and continue into early Monday. Heavy rain from training storms may also lead to localized flash flooding, particularly in low-lying or urban areas. On Monday, May 19, the risk zone shifts slightly east and south, again rated at Level 2, with greatest impacts expected during the afternoon and evening hours.

Residents with outdoor plans should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Watches and warnings could be issued with little notice. The threat area may shift, so updates from NWS Omaha are advised through Monday.
