Baltimore, Md. – Thunderstorms and a steep temperature drop are sweeping across Maryland this weekend as a cold front cuts through the region Saturday, bringing a gusty breeze and ending the recent stretch of summer-like heat.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, early morning showers and embedded thunder are expected across the southern and eastern parts of the state Saturday, with highs soaring to the mid-to-upper 80s before the front moves through. A brisk northwest wind will follow, ushering in cooler, drier air that lingers into early next week.

Cities including Annapolis, Frederick, and Salisbury can expect noticeably cooler conditions Sunday, with highs only reaching the low to mid-70s. Overnight lows could dip into the upper 40s. By Monday, most of the region will settle into a more seasonable pattern with highs in the low 80s but overnight lows as cool as 44°F in western Maryland.

Drivers should watch for slick roads early Saturday and prepare for stronger wind gusts by late afternoon. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms and secure outdoor items before the winds pick up.

Unsettled weather may return midweek as a low pressure system develops. More updates are expected early next week.
