Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Thunderstorms packing heavy rain will move into western Pennsylvania early Friday, bringing a threat of flooding and dangerous road conditions across the Pittsburgh metro area.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers and thunderstorms are expected between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, with the highest risk between 8 a.m. and noon. The area could see rainfall totals of a quarter to half an inch, with isolated higher amounts, especially in thunderstorms. A weather alert remains in place for Allegheny County and surrounding areas, including sections of I-376 and Route 28.

Motorists should expect reduced visibility and possible ponding on roads during the morning commute. Residents are advised to clear storm drains, charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Winds may gust up to 17 mph during the strongest cells Friday afternoon.

The unsettled weather doesn’t stop Friday. Showers and possible thunderstorms will linger into Saturday with highs near 79°F. By Sunday, skies begin to clear slightly, though a chance of sprinkles remains Sunday night. Expect partly sunny skies and dry conditions Monday and Tuesday with seasonable highs in the mid-70s.
