Wilmington, Ohio – Two waves of severe thunderstorms could impact millions across Ohio late Thursday and Friday, bringing the threat of damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain from Cincinnati to Columbus.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the first system is expected to arrive late Thursday evening, with storms lingering into the early hours of Friday. A second round could develop by late Friday afternoon and extend into the overnight, impacting both the evening commute and overnight travel.
Cities under threat include Dayton, Chillicothe, Athens, and parts of the I-71 corridor. Thursday’s storms are expected to affect southwest and central Ohio, while Friday’s threat expands eastward. Strong wind gusts and isolated hail are the main hazards, but localized flooding is possible in areas with poor drainage.
Residents are urged to review severe weather plans, secure outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel during storm periods. Power outages and tree damage are possible, especially in rural or wooded areas.
Storm alerts and timing may shift as updated models come in. The NWS will issue additional updates Thursday morning as confidence increases in track and intensity. Warnings remain likely through late Friday night.
