Gretna, Louisiana – A summer-like heat stretch settles into southeast Louisiana, with high temperatures nearing 90°F through Tuesday and little relief in sight.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high of 89°F. Winds from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph will continue to push warmer air into the region. Friday and Saturday will repeat the pattern, staying mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s and lows hovering in the mid-70s.

Drivers along I-10 and residents across Jefferson Parish should prepare for dry pavement and rising heat, especially during the afternoon commute. Humidity is expected to climb, pushing the heat index higher, so staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activity during peak hours is recommended.

Rain chances remain extremely low through Monday, and while that may sound like a reprieve, dry air and sun exposure increase the risk of sunburn and heat exhaustion. No cooling storms are expected until at least mid-next week.
