La Crosse, Wisconsin – Storms are back on the radar for western Wisconsin Thursday, with afternoon thunderstorm chances and gusty winds expected in La Crosse.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop after 1 p.m. Thursday, with southwest winds reaching up to 24 mph and isolated gusts near 30 mph. While rainfall totals are likely to stay under a tenth of an inch, heavier downpours are possible during storms.

Drivers along Highway 61 and I-90 should prepare for sudden visibility drops during afternoon showers. Wind gusts could make travel challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles.

By Friday, conditions turn breezy and drier with highs near 75°F. Winds shift to the southwest at 13–17 mph, gusting as high as 31 mph, bringing a warm spring feel to the region but continuing potential fire risks due to dry grasslands.

Saturday looks quieter with partly sunny skies and a high near 63°F. Nights will be noticeably cooler, dipping into the upper 40s through Sunday. No major rain threats return until early next week, when showers and storms reappear Monday night into Tuesday.

Residents should check weather apps and NWS alerts daily, especially with rapidly changing storm timing. Charge devices, secure outdoor items, and avoid travel during peak storm hours Thursday afternoon.

More rain is likely early next week, with an 80% chance of showers Tuesday. Another update is expected by Friday morning.
