Champaign, Illinois – Thursday’s spring heat will push temperatures to 91°F in Champaign as breezy conditions and rising humidity signal approaching storms.

According to the National Weather Service, gusts could hit 33 mph Thursday afternoon, especially along I-74 and open areas surrounding Champaign. Residents should secure outdoor items and be cautious on roadways, particularly in high-profile vehicles. Though skies will remain mostly sunny during the day, moisture and instability will increase ahead of a developing system expected to bring showers and thunderstorms Friday night.

Friday will remain warm with a high near 89°F before a cold front brings a 50% chance of showers after 10 p.m., possibly including thunderstorms. Wind gusts up to 29 mph could accompany the system, especially in southern Champaign County and neighboring towns like Tolono and Savoy.

Looking ahead, the weekend brings welcome relief. Saturday will be sunny with a high near 78°F, followed by a mild Saturday night in the mid-50s. Sunday stays seasonably warm with a high of 76°F and partly cloudy skies.

Monday and Tuesday will trend wetter again. Showers and possible thunderstorms are likely Monday night into Tuesday, with highs near 79°F both days. Keep devices charged and be prepared for weather alerts starting Friday night.
