Fort Wayne, Ind. – Drivers across northern Indiana should prepare for potentially dangerous conditions Wednesday morning as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to as little as a quarter-mile in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, patchy dense fog developed before dawn and is expected to linger through approximately 9 a.m. EDT. Affected areas stretch from Elkhart and South Bend to Fort Wayne, including counties such as Allen, St. Joseph, and LaGrange.

Motorists on I-69, US-30, and other major routes may experience sudden drops in visibility, especially in rural or low-lying areas. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles during the morning commute.

Cities like Marion, Warsaw, and Rochester are also seeing heavy fog that could delay school transportation and disrupt early travel. Visibility is expected to gradually improve after sunrise, but early morning travelers should remain cautious.

This is not uncommon for mid-May as temperature shifts and overnight moisture create ideal fog conditions. No additional advisories have been issued, but updates may follow if visibility worsens.
