Fort Wayne, Indiana – Warm air will surge across northeastern Indiana on Thursday, but it may end with a bang as thunderstorms return by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service, Fort Wayne and surrounding cities can expect mostly sunny skies early Thursday, with highs peaking around 85°F. However, a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms moves in after 6 p.m., with possible lightning and gusty winds. Some storms could continue overnight into Friday, potentially disrupting the Friday morning commute on U.S. 30 and I-69.

Areas across Allen, Whitley, and Huntington counties are under watch for rapidly shifting conditions, especially with increasing cloud cover and wind gusts reaching up to 20 mph. Thursday night’s low will hover around 66°F. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and monitor weather alerts closely.

By Friday afternoon, showers and storms could redevelop after 2 p.m. Rain may be locally heavy at times, especially near Columbia City and Auburn. Sunshine returns gradually by Saturday, but pop-up showers are still possible early in the day.

Drivers should also be alert for patchy dense fog each morning through Friday, particularly in low-lying areas and near rivers. Use low-beam headlights and allow extra time during your morning commute.
