San Angelo, Texas – Scorching spring heat will grip West Central Texas starting Thursday, with temperatures in San Angelo climbing to a brutal 101°F by afternoon. The National Weather Service warns of elevated fire danger and heat-related risks through Sunday as the area enters a multi-day hot spell.

According to the NWS in San Angelo, Thursday’s high of 101°F will be followed by more oppressive heat Friday and Saturday, with temperatures remaining in the mid-to-upper 90s. Winds from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph may offer limited relief. A slight chance of thunderstorms could develop Saturday afternoon, but relief will be brief and localized.

Drivers on US-87 and nearby I-10 should prepare for possible vehicle overheating and reduced visibility from heat shimmer. Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals. Outdoor work should be limited or rescheduled for early mornings.

Friday stays mostly sunny and dry with a high of 96°F. Saturday introduces a 20 percent chance of afternoon storms with gusts up to 20 mph. Sunday remains hot near 99°F, with slightly cooler temps and partly cloudy skies returning Monday.
