St. Louis, MO – A warming trend across eastern Missouri and western Illinois will push temperatures into the upper 80s and low 90s through the weekend, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms likely beginning Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms begins Thursday afternoon, primarily impacting parts of southern Illinois. The storm risk increases to between 20 and 40 percent on Friday, with scattered afternoon thunderstorms expected to develop across the St. Louis metro and surrounding areas.

Temperatures are forecast to peak on Thursday and Friday, reaching highs of 91°F in St. Louis, with overnight lows hovering in the mid-60s. While Saturday is expected to remain dry and warm, with highs in the mid-80s, storm chances return Sunday with a 30 to 40 percent probability of thunderstorms.

Residents are advised to remain weather-aware, especially during peak heating hours in the afternoons when storm development is most likely. NWS urges people to monitor local alerts and avoid outdoor activities during potential storm periods.

This early-season heat follows a cooler spring, with temperatures now rising well above seasonal averages. Rainfall could bring temporary relief, but flash flooding and lightning remain potential hazards.
