Fort Necessity, LA – Minor flooding is ongoing near the Boeuf River in Franklin Parish as the water level remains above flood stage.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, MS, the river measured 52.2 feet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, well above the 50-foot flood threshold. The river is expected to fall slowly over the coming days but will remain in a flood warning stage until further notice.

Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roads, emphasizing the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” safety protocol, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Continued rainfall across the region may slow the river’s descent and prolong flooding impacts.

Communities near Fort Necessity should remain alert as minor flooding could impact low-lying roads, farmland, and structures close to the river. Although the river’s level is decreasing—projected to reach 51.8 feet by Friday evening—residents should monitor local advisories and prepare accordingly.

Flood conditions on the Boeuf River began May 2, with a crest of 52.4 feet on May 11. Updates from the National Weather Service will follow at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday via www.water.noaa.gov/wfo/jan.
