Somerset, PA – Floodwaters surged across parts of Somerset and Bedford counties Tuesday evening, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood warning until 9:15 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service Binghamton, which issued the alert on behalf of State College, widespread flooding was reported across low-lying areas following 3 to 5 inches of rain earlier in the day. Streams and creeks continued to rise from runoff, especially near Meyersdale, Berlin, and Salisbury, where emergency officials reported water over roadways.

The alert includes numerous waterways, such as Kimberly Run, Wills Creek, and the Raystown Branch Juniata River, all showing signs of overflow. Key roadways and rural crossings near Indian Lake, Shanksville, and Hyndman are especially dangerous, with travel discouraged.

Residents in flood-prone areas should move to higher ground immediately. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is forecast before the warning expires. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads—“Turn around, don’t drown.”

This event adds to central Pennsylvania’s history of spring flash flooding, especially in elevated terrain like the Laurel Highlands. Residents should stay tuned to local alerts and check 511PA for real-time travel impacts.
