Beaufort, North Carolina – Flooded roads and dangerous surf continue to threaten coastal North Carolina Tuesday evening, with more storms likely into midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, a Flood Watch remains in effect through late Tuesday night, covering Beaufort, East Carteret, Ocracoke Island, Hatteras, and inland areas along U.S. Route 70. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with isolated pockets exceeding 5 inches. Urban and low-lying areas face elevated risks of flash flooding.
In addition, a Beach Hazards Statement continues until Tuesday evening for rip currents along beaches from Cape Hatteras to Surf City. The most dangerous surf conditions are expected a couple of hours after low tide, around 2:15 p.m. Those visiting the beach should stay out of the water.
Wednesday’s spring weather brings a reprieve, with a high near 80°F and only a 30% chance of scattered storms during the day. Winds will shift westward at 10 to 15 mph.
Looking ahead, Thursday through Sunday will be a mixed bag:
- Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms possible before 2 p.m., high of 83°F.
- Friday: Mostly sunny and hot, with highs climbing to 88°F.
- Saturday and Sunday: Slight chance of showers, but generally warm and dry with highs in the upper 80s.
