Blacksburg, Virginia – A stretch of stormy weather will return to southwest Virginia by midday Wednesday, bringing rain, gusty winds, and localized flooding risks, especially along Route 460 near Blacksburg.
According to the National Weather Service, widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a chance of strong cells continuing into the evening. Daytime highs will peak near 72°F with a light southeast breeze turning calm by night. Rainfall amounts could exceed a half inch in some areas, particularly in thunderstorms.
Thursday offers only a slight reprieve, with limited sunshine and a small chance of afternoon showers. But by Friday, another round of thunderstorms is likely, pushing temperatures back into the low 80s. Localized street flooding and traffic slowdowns are possible, particularly in low-lying areas of Montgomery County and along the Route 460 corridor.
Weekend weather will remain unsettled. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible early Saturday, with partly cloudy skies expected Saturday night. Sunday and Monday look drier, with highs near 78°F and lows in the upper 50s.
Travelers should monitor updates from VDOT and the Blacksburg Transit system. Keep phones charged and avoid driving through high water. Rainfall totals through Friday may exceed 1.5 inches in storm-prone zones.
