Columbia, South Carolina – Showers and thunderstorms will batter the Midlands through Wednesday evening, bringing lightning, localized flooding, and tricky travel across Columbia and nearby counties.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2:00 p.m. Friday, with the most intense rainfall expected midday Wednesday. Rain chances surge to 70% by late morning, with a second wave possible Wednesday night as another line of storms moves through. Drivers along I-77 and U.S. 378 should anticipate slick roads and standing water, especially during the late afternoon commute.
Wednesday’s high will reach 80°F, but skies will stay mostly cloudy until showers taper off late Wednesday night. Calm morning winds will shift out of the east at 5 to 7 mph before increasing slightly during storms. Rainfall amounts may total up to a quarter inch, but higher localized amounts are possible in thunderstorms.
By Thursday, sunny skies and warming temperatures return. Expect a high of 88°F, climbing to 93°F by Friday. Another chance of scattered showers arrives Saturday, with a 30% chance of rain and overnight lows around 69°F. Sunday will likely be dry and hot, with highs again in the low 90s.
The next five days reflect a classic South Carolina spring-to-summer transition: humid, stormy midweek followed by a dry, hot weekend. Residents should avoid flood-prone roads, charge devices, and check alerts before heading out.
