Concord, NH – An unseasonably late frost will sweep across New England overnight, threatening sensitive plants as temperatures fall into the low 30s through 6 a.m. Monday. Gardeners across Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and western Massachusetts are urged to take immediate steps to protect tender vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service, frost advisories are active from midnight through early Monday morning. Areas at highest risk include interior York and Cumberland counties in Maine, central and southern New Hampshire, Vermont’s Lamoille and Windsor counties, and Massachusetts’ Franklin and Hampshire counties. Overnight lows are expected to hover between 32 and 34 degrees, with colder pockets dipping even lower.
Cities including Concord, Keene, Augusta, Brattleboro, and Montpelier should anticipate early morning frost that may damage unprotected flowers and crops. Residents are advised to cover plants with breathable fabric or bring potted plants indoors where possible.
This late-season chill mirrors similar cold snaps seen in May 2021 and serves as a reminder that New England’s growing season can have a rough start.
Frost advisories remain in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, with warmer conditions expected to return later in the week. Another update will be issued if additional advisories are posted.
