Morocco, IN – A fiery two-vehicle collision at a major Newton County intersection early Saturday morning sent two people to the hospital and temporarily disrupted traffic along US 41.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:05 a.m. at the intersection of US 41 and State Road 14 in Enos. A preliminary investigation by Deputy Byers revealed that a 2010 Ford F-150, driven by a 20-year-old Illinois man, was traveling westbound on SR 14 when it failed to yield the right-of-way. The Ford collided with a southbound 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 66-year-old Indiana man, in the southbound lanes of US 41.
Authorities reported that the Jeep caught fire following the impact. Despite the blaze, the two occupants of the Jeep managed to exit the vehicle safely and were later transported to a local hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. The Ford’s driver declined medical treatment at the scene.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including Newton County 9-1-1 Communications, Morocco Fire Department, Newton County EMS, Tri-Creek Ambulance Service, and Village Motors.
Motorists traveling through the area experienced temporary delays as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and ensure the area was safe.
