Salt Lake City, Utah – Strong thunderstorms are expected to rattle portions of northern Utah this afternoon, bringing gusty winds topping 58 miles per hour and pockets of small hail along the Wasatch Front. Outdoor activities could quickly turn hazardous as these fast-moving storms sweep through the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms remains in effect through this evening, primarily impacting communities north of Salt Lake City. Key threats include damaging wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and unsecured items, as well as brief bursts of hail.

Residents in Ogden, Layton, and Bountiful should stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions, especially between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. today. The NWS advises securing outdoor furniture, trampolines, and lightweight structures to prevent wind damage. Motorists on I-15 and I-84 should also prepare for sudden low visibility and slick road conditions during storm bursts.

If you hear thunder, seek shelter immediately, as lightning strikes can be deadly. Storm activity is expected to taper off later tonight, but additional weather advisories remain possible. Stay tuned for updates throughout the evening.
