Hastings, Nebraska – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for several counties across Nebraska, warning of critical fire weather conditions from noon to 9 p.m. today. Areas within the pink-shaded zones are at the highest risk, with dangerously dry conditions and gusty winds setting the stage for rapid fire spread. The warning includes many counties in the northern and western parts of the state, where outdoor burning is strictly advised against.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will be coming from the south at speeds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Relative humidity levels are expected to plummet as low as 15 to 20%, further exacerbating fire danger. While counties outside the warning zone will still face elevated fire weather conditions, the situation is expected to worsen later in the week, especially on Wednesday and Thursday.
Residents are urged to refrain from any outdoor burning, including grilling and campfires, and to stay alert for any new fire risks throughout the day. With the possibility of additional Red Flag warnings through the week, all outdoor activities should be carefully monitored.
