Rochester, N.Y. – Clouds and light rain could dampen morning commutes across the Finger Lakes and eastern Lake Ontario regions Friday as a chilly, northerly flow settles in for much of the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, light showers are expected to develop late Friday morning and continue into the afternoon, particularly in areas east of Lake Ontario. Rainfall totals will remain light — generally under a quarter of an inch — but the cooler air and overcast skies will keep temperatures stuck in the low to mid-50s across central New York.
The Genesee Valley and cities like Rochester, Geneva, and Oswego will experience the brunt of today’s cloud cover and cooler temps. Patchy drizzle may reduce visibility at times, and wet roads could cause brief delays during midday travel. Areas farther west, including Buffalo and Jamestown, should see sunnier skies and milder conditions by early afternoon.
Drivers are urged to use caution during slick periods and allow extra stopping distance on wet roads. Residents should also keep jackets handy and limit time outdoors, especially in wind-prone areas near the lakeshore.
Rain is expected to taper by evening, but clouds may linger into Saturday morning. Another weather update is expected later today if conditions shift.
