Fort Worth, Texas – North Texas is heading into Mother’s Day weekend with a brief round of Friday afternoon storms before sunny, summer-like weather returns.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20% chance of thunderstorms will develop in the Fort Worth area after 1 p.m. Friday, with gusts up to 20 mph possible along I-35W and I-20. While severe storms aren’t expected, brief downpours and isolated lightning could disrupt afternoon errands or school pickups. Winds will shift from the north at 15 mph before calming overnight.

By Saturday, conditions improve dramatically. Mostly sunny skies and a high near 77°F will make for a pleasant start to the weekend. Winds from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph will keep the heat in check. Saturday night will dip to 55°F with clear, calm conditions — ideal for outdoor plans or evening dining.

Sunday’s Mother’s Day forecast looks even better: Highs near 77°F with plenty of sun, making it one of the best weekend days in recent weeks. Light winds from the north around 5 mph will provide a comfortable feel for parks, patios, or backyard celebrations.

Looking ahead:

  • Monday: Sunny, high of 81°F
  • Tuesday: Summer heat surges with a high of 90°F
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot, nearing 97°F
  • Thursday: Partly sunny, high of 94°F
