Binghamton, N.Y. – Strong thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, hail, and isolated flash flooding to parts of New York through 10 p.m. Tuesday, especially in areas already saturated by recent rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, several rounds of showers and storms will move across the region throughout the day, with the most intense activity likely between noon and 10 p.m. The main hazards include wind gusts strong enough to down trees or power lines and hail capable of damaging vehicles or property.

Communities across Central and Southern Tier New York—including Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, and the Catskills—face increased risk, especially where recent rain has left soils vulnerable to flash flooding. Localized flooding could impact roads and low-lying areas, particularly in the western Twin Tiers.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and stay alert to rapidly changing conditions. Those in flood-prone zones should be prepared to act quickly. Keep phones charged, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.

Although severe threats taper by late evening, moderate rainfall may linger overnight, especially over Central New York. Additional advisories may be issued as storms evolve.
