Blacksburg, Virginia – Thunderstorms capable of producing hail and damaging winds could rattle southwest Virginia starting Sunday night and lasting into Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a Slight Risk for severe storms in Blacksburg and surrounding counties, with the most active weather expected overnight Sunday into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, showers and thunderstorms may develop late Sunday, particularly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., with gusts up to 22 mph and localized hail possible. A second wave of storm activity could return Monday afternoon and again Thursday. Impacts include slick roads, falling limbs, and isolated power outages—especially along US-460 through Montgomery and Roanoke counties.

Localized flooding is unlikely, but downed tree limbs or brief road closures can’t be ruled out during high wind periods. Residents should secure outdoor objects, charge mobile devices, and stay updated through NOAA Weather Radio or local emergency alerts. Spotters are encouraged to report any hail or wind damage in their area.

High temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid 70s through Tuesday before cooling slightly late week. Rain chances linger through Thursday but begin tapering off Friday.
