Amarillo, Texas – Early morning storms could bring damaging winds and hail across parts of the Texas Panhandle, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for Hemphill, Lipscomb, and Wheeler counties until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, clusters of strong storms are developing rapidly across the region, with wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail possible. The watch was issued at 2:35 a.m. CDT and will remain active until late morning as storms continue to track northeastward.

Residents in Canadian, Lipscomb, and Shamrock should prepare for sudden downpours and potential lightning strikes. Drivers along U.S. Highway 83 and Interstate 40 may encounter hazardous conditions, including brief low visibility and slick roads. Officials urge travelers to delay non-essential trips and secure outdoor items that could become airborne.

This watch follows a series of active weather patterns across the Southern Plains this month, keeping emergency managers on alert. Locals are encouraged to stay weather-aware, charge mobile devices, and review safe shelter locations.

Severe weather remains a possibility throughout the morning, and additional warnings may be issued if storms intensify.
