Springfield, IL – Residents across Illinois are invited to weigh in on the future of high-speed rail service through a virtual public event running this week. The initiative, organized by the High-Speed Railway Commission and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), aims to gather community feedback and share study findings about a potential high-speed rail network.

According to a press release issued Monday, the virtual event will be available from April 28 through May 11 on the project’s website, www.ILHighSpeedRail.org. Participants can view a recorded presentation, review study materials, and complete a survey, which is also available in Spanish. The study examines the feasibility of building a high-speed rail corridor connecting Chicago and St. Louis, with potential links to existing Amtrak, Metra, and MetroLink services, as well as cities like Rockford, Moline, Peoria, and Decatur.

The Illinois High-Speed Rail Feasibility Study was launched following legislation signed by Governor J.B. Pritzker on August 6, 2021. The study remains in its early phases, and the current efforts are intended to assess whether the project should move forward, pending the availability of funding.

Public participation is strongly encouraged to help shape future phases of Illinois’ transportation infrastructure.
