Fresno, California – Heavy snow will blanket Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, as well as the mountain communities of the southern Sierra, beginning late Friday night and continuing through Sunday morning. Drivers should expect hazardous travel conditions, especially along Highways 41, 180, 198, and the Grapevine corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Sunday for areas from Yosemite National Park to Sequoia National Park, including Shaver Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, and Wawona. Up to 10 inches of snow could fall in higher elevations. A separate advisory covers Frazier Park, Tehachapi, Grapevine, and Johnsondale from 5 a.m. Saturday, warning of up to 7 inches of accumulation and wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Major routes such as the Grapevine (I-5) and Highway 58 over Tehachapi Pass could become slick and treacherous. Travelers are urged to slow down, keep headlights on, and carry chains where required. Expect possible delays or road closures, particularly in Grant Grove, Lake Wishon, and the Frazier Mountain communities. If you must drive, check the latest Caltrans updates by calling 511.

This late-season storm is the first significant April snowfall in the Sierra since 2022. More advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Warnings remain in effect through 11 a.m. Sunday.
