San Angelo, Texas – Thunderstorms are expected to bring dangerous flash flooding to Haskell and Throckmorton counties beginning Friday evening, threatening roads, fields, and low-lying areas overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, a Flood Watch will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through Saturday morning as new storms roll into the northern Big Country. With soils already saturated from recent rain, an additional 1 to 3 inches could quickly flood area creeks, streams, and highways, making some roads impassable.
Cities including Haskell, Throckmorton, Woodson, and Irby should prepare for potential travel disruptions, especially on rural routes and low-water crossings. Emergency managers warn residents to avoid driving across flooded roadways and to move vehicles to higher ground before heavy rain begins. Power outages and rapid water rises near rivers or drainage ditches are also possible.
This round of storms follows a week of wet weather in the region. The threat of flash flooding is expected to last through Saturday morning, with further warnings possible if rainfall totals exceed forecasts. Residents are urged to monitor alerts and stay off the roads until the all-clear is given.
