Amarillo, Texas – Storms are stacking up for the Texas Panhandle this spring weekend, and Amarillo is squarely in the path. Starting Saturday morning, strong to severe thunderstorms will roll into the area with risks including large hail, heavy rain, and damaging winds. Travel along I-40 could be impacted, especially from Saturday night through early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms begins late Friday night and continues into Saturday. Storms may become severe by mid-morning Saturday, with waves of rain and storms expected to persist through Wednesday. A tornado risk remains low but can’t be ruled out.

Saturday will bring multiple rounds of thunderstorms, with the strongest storms likely between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and again Saturday night into early Sunday. Rain totals may exceed an inch in some areas. Wind gusts up to 30 mph will further complicate travel and outdoor plans.

Sunday stays stormy with a 30% chance of lingering rain and storms. By Monday, skies clear and temps jump into the 80s—offering a brief spring break from the unsettled weather. But another round of storms could return Tuesday and Wednesday, keeping conditions unpredictable through midweek.
