Bourbonnais, IL – All schools in Bourbonnais Elementary School District 53 are closed today after the district’s entire bus fleet was rendered inoperable early Thursday morning.

According to a message sent to BESD53 families, the unexpected closure is due to a significant issue at the district’s transportation center that has left the buses unable to operate. As a result, the district announced that no classes will be held on Thursday, April 24.

The nature of the transportation center issue has not yet been disclosed. District officials have stated that additional updates and guidance will be provided to families later in the day. It is unclear at this time whether the issue will impact school operations on Friday or into next week.

Parents are advised to monitor official communications from the district for further information. The school district has not indicated whether remote learning will be implemented as an alternative for today’s missed instruction.

BESD53 serves a significant portion of the Bourbonnais community, and any extended closure could have wider implications for student instruction and family scheduling.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
